The Race to Replace Danny Davis in the 7th

Sure, he’s only formed an exploratory committee– and how many Congressmen in the majority walk away from the Ways and Means Committee while longtime friends are in the White House? But should he take the plunge, Danny Davis will be the favorite to win as Cook County Board president.

Alas, the race to replace Danny will presumably not be a special election, which means we won’t have a primary with the creative chaos we saw earlier this year in the 5th.  On Friday, Shia Kapos of Crains tagged lobbyist and former Davis chief of staff (and former Hillary Clinton stalwart) Richard Boykin with the mantel of favorite. The man who replaced the president in Springfield, Kwame Raoul would also be a formidable candidate; other names in the mix could include 3rd ward Ald. Pat Dowell, 20th ward Ald. Willie Cochran, and 24th ward Ald. Sharon Denise Dixon. (9th District state rep Art Turner would be on the list, but he’s already gunning for Lt. Governor, apparently.)
